A familiar face to many Gold Coast City Jazz Club members, Todd Hardy is a highly regarded trumpeter and an accomplished musician who has built a strong reputation through decades of performing jazz. Known for his musicianship, versatility and deep connection to the traditional swinging jazz style, Todd has become a well-known and much-admired performer among Club audiences.
Now, nearly 30 years of musical friendships, shared stages and a love of swinging jazz come together on his new album, Something Old, Something New.
The album will be officially launched at the Manly Jazz Festival on Sunday 20 September and features eight tracks, combining original compositions with a selection of favourite standards.
As the title suggests, Something Old, Something New brings together familiar sounds and fresh material, while remaining firmly rooted in the swinging, old-school jazz tradition.
The project features a number of Todd’s favourite musicians and long-time friends from almost three decades of playing jazz, bringing together players with a strong musical history and connection.
The entire album was recorded in a single day across two Sydney studios during last year’s Manly Jazz Festival, after a rare opportunity arose to have this particular group of musicians together in Sydney at the same time.
The result is a recording that captures not only the musicianship of the individual players, but also the ease and chemistry that comes from years of performing together.
Something Old, Something New will be available on all major streaming platforms from 17 September, ahead of its official launch at the Manly Jazz Festival.
